The Ouch-less Touch Marketing Strategy For Writers
When I think of my writing ‘career’ I often become depressed. For I am constantly being reminded that it isn’t a career unless you are actually making money at it. Otherwise it’s only a hobby.
“But I just want to write. Surely, if I get good at writing, my words will sell.” I tell myself.
But as Jeanne Veillette Bowerman says in Writers Digest November 20, 2020, your writing “isn’t going to sell itself.”
OUCH! My obsessive undertaking crashes hard as objectives unrewarded crush my hunger.
For in a world with over 7.5 billion people, it’s hard to stand out. And yet the irony of it is that we often feel so alone.
For we want to be ‘the only one’ in someone’s heart … to our loved ones; to our customers; to our fans.
Yet we also know the pain of being ‘the only one’ who feels so lost, so alone.
So how do we satisfy both our need to stand out as large as a whale in the ocean and at the same time not feel lost and alone in that endless ocean?
The truth is, we separate our business and professional goals from our personal and social goals.
Or at least, we used to. In today’s world, with social media bombarding us with all kinds of personal messages promoting business goals, we often feel the distress of conflicting feelings.
On the one hand, we feel deep hunger for the things we are told we ‘need’ in order to be successful and live a better life.
On the other hand, at the same time, we feel confused about who is the best person to go to, which are actually the best products, what path is the best way to go.
As a writer, I experience that OUCH feeling more and more, especially when you tell me Only U Can Help me. For you don’t know me. You don’t really know how I feel. Or what I need. And I get the feeling you don’t really care about me and what I need. You just want to sell me something.
And, of course, that is usually so true. For we live in a world where the commercial aspect of life seems to have taken over everything.
Oh sure, they tell you they really understand and care about you. They get into your head by worming their way into your heart with emotional pleas. And their sensual stories really do stir you up. They arouse your desire to live a better life. They waken your hunger to have what they are promoting.
But every one of them are so compelling they drive you to distraction. For they all sound so good. So tantalizing. So desirable … you want them all!
And you know you can’t have them all. No one can. And that’s the conundrum …. that you must choose. You must stop feeling so bewildered by the endless bounty in the world.
You must stop contemplating about which one is best …
and make a decision.
For your future depends on it. The realization of all your hopes and dreams will be decided by that one choice.
And if you make the wrong choice, your whole life will go up in smoke.
Or so you are told.
For the urgency of it all is pounded into your brain until you feel so agitated that you respond.
So how do you choose?
How do you ensure that you make the right decision?
How do you ensure your customers, your prospects, your people … your readers … make the right move?
And choose you!
It’s all very simple.
You relay the message join me. UNITE with me on this journey. Come with me on this U ‘N I Together Experience.
For the only way to ensure that feeling of aloneness will disappear and the confusion of commercial constipation will go away is to make sure people understand that you really are with them. That you will both join hands and take the plunge together.
To reassure them that you will personally guide them into the land of their dreams fulfilled. That together you will climb the monumental mountains they face.
You TOUCH their hearts by reminding them of the Two Of Us Conquering Hurts, Hurdles, and Hardships.
Assuring them that together you will overcome the turbulence and make the trek a total triumph.
For it is within your power to help people envision themselves walking beside you and achieving success by vanquishing the trepidation and all the troubles they once found so overwhelming.
Of course, even though that solution is so simple … It isn’t easy. It means getting involved. It means actually putting in the time to ‘be,’ and work, with others. It means investing your energy on what really matters — helping people — emotionally touching their souls — instead of merely expending your energy on time-consuming, yet fruitless, tactics.
And it means marketing what you write. Actually selling your writing,
As Bowerman says “The magic word here is sell. When you sell anything, you need a marketing strategy.” And UNITE with me for a Unique Never-before Initiated Together Experience is the marketing strategy that works.
For no one wants to be alone in that big vast ocean where you envision nothing but endless waves of ‘only u can help’ me. But everyone wants to go on an exciting cruise with someone who excites and fascinates them.
And in the long run, it’s worth it. For you will be helping others evolve and grow, as well as getting new experiences yourself while growing your business.
And you will be helping further the world’s evolution towards conscious and conscientious commerce instead of the heartless devil-may-care ‘business is business’ attitude that once was the commercialist motto.
